For the main flamingo body, the original sample was made with YarnArt Jeans, a Sport/Fine weight cotton-acrylic blend. The wings were made with YarnArt Piuma for a soft, fluffy texture.

If you want to use a different yarn, choose yarns that give you neat, tight stitches for amigurumi. The Yarn Substitution Tool is a helpful resource for finding yarns with a similar weight, fiber content, and texture.

Yarn colors used in the original flamingo:

  • YarnArt Jeans 36 – pink for the body
  • YarnArt Jeans 78 – pink for the legs
  • Black yarn – for the beak
  • White yarn – for the beak
  • YarnArt Piuma 4413 – for the wings

Gauge and Size Notes

Gauge is not critical for this crochet flamingo pattern, but your stitches should be tight enough so the stuffing does not show through. Use the hook size that gives you a neat, dense amigurumi fabric with your chosen yarn.

The flamingo has a long crocheted neck with wire inserted inside for shaping. Use firm wire that can hold the neck shape well. The neck does not need to be stuffed.
