How to Crochet a Magic Ring/Circle

The magic ring is one of the most important techniques to begin amigurumi or a crochet project that’s worked in the round. Therefore, it is necessary to learn how to crochet a magic ring.

First, make a circle as shown on Photo 1.  To do this cross the yarn from the skein over the tail end of the yarn.

Pull the yarn from the skein down through the circle (Photo 3).

Pull loop on your hook all the way through, and up to top of magic ring (Photo 4).

Pull the yarn through the loop on your hook (Photo 6).

Work as many single crochet as indicated in the pattern. Amigurumi projects usually start with six single crochet stitches.

Tighten the magic ring by pulling the yarn end to close the circle (Photo 8). You have now completed a magic ring!
